The Power of a Self-Designed Life Plan

Updated: Nov 17

Responding rather than reacting to your needs.

Are you asking yourself: What do I want to do next? Whom do I want to become? I have an education now, what is my next step to success? What do I have to do to reach my goals?

Have you heard answers that often come from someone external and look something like:

  • “Follow the family trend…”, “if you want to make “x” amount of money”, “…if you want to be successful, you have to…”

  • “Do what you really feel more comfortable with” or “do something you really like, choose by yourself”.

Self-Design Life Plan

Both cases are well-intentioned advice; however, these answers point to external perceptions of what “should” be done, a perception based on external expectations, a trend based on other people’s definition of success, rather than your own journey and intentional self-discovery.

Are you taking a well-informed decision, one that is aligned with your natural talent? One that is congruent with your values, strengths, and priorities?

What are other options? Are your options limited? Are your options influenced by your life circumstances, your perceived reality, your cultural environment, and your context?

How many of your life decisions have been conscious or just chance?

Are you dealing with a crucial decision in your life, which has the potential to impact several years if not decades, ahead?

The power of a self-designed life plan

Your personal life plan has a significant impact on your life because it expresses your dreams, needs, desires, objectives, and priorities on your own terms.

It is a creative piece that has the power to guide your life and ease your decisions. It keeps you connected with your present moment and how it’s supporting your future aspirations. It helps you be more content with your life as it happens, and how that can create a better future towards your dreams.

A life plan needs to be simple, and it is not a one-in-a-lifetime exercise.

It should be created and reviewed regularly, and it should become a habit

It is the journey to your life objectives that makes the ride worthy, as long as you are in the driver’s seat and own your life plan.

"The highest reward for a man's toil is not what he gets for it but what he becomes by it." by John Ruskin

What do you need to start?

  1. Curiosity

  2. Acknowledgment of your talent and your strengths.

  3. To stay true to yourself

  4. Be open to discovering new things about yourself.

A self-designed life plan gives you the power to live your talent on your terms, fulfill your existence, and share with others.
